Formula 1 Racer tracks AirPods thief with Apple "Find my" feature

Apple has been building a solid ecosystem to sustain its Apple devices. Apart from overall software, the company also offers solutions that ease the life of iPhone, iPad, AirPod, and Watch users. There are also the usual safety measures to ensure that the iDevices are safer than the big majority of electronics in the market. To boost security, Apple has developed the "Find My" feature over the course of the years to quickly allow users to track their devices. This is also a safety measure in theft cases since it can help authorities track stolen devices. That's exactly what happened with the popular Formula 1 Racer, Sebastian Vettel. He used the "Find My" app to locate his stolen AirPods.

According to a report from Apple Insider, Sebastian Vettel had their AirPods robbed on Monday. The Formula Driver tried to retrieve his belonging and used the Find My App to track his AirPods and hunt down the thief. After the Spanish Grand Prix on Monday morning, Sebastian Vettel, driving with his family, stopped his Aston Martin at a hotel in Barcelona and got out of the car. The thieves took the opportunity to snatch a backpack from the car and fled.

As per iPadizate, the four-time Formula 1 champion did not immediately contact the police. Instead, he attempted to handle the theft himself. Sebastian Vettel picked up an electric scooter and opened the "Find My" app to track the AirPods in the bag.

The Police later chased the thief in the city with Sebastian Vettel and urged the racer to file a complaint at the police station instead of continuing the chase. Eventually, the racer and the police went to a grocery store. The AirPods have been left in a vase at the store. Unfortunately, the Police is yet to find the thieves. However, they have hopes of identifying them through the hotel's security footage.

In addition to the AirPods, the backpack was filled with personal items. That includes the racer's driver's license, passport, and several canceled credit cards. Interestingly, the robbery of Formula 1 Drivers is lucrative for thieves. There is a high value on their property. To recall, in July 2021, British Formula 1 driver Lando Norris' $50,000 watch was stolen after a sporting event. Later in April 2022, driver Charles Leclerc also "lost" his $320,000 watch to thieves. Apparently, there is a whole gang tracking the F1 racers to steal their belongings.

Apple may introduce more features to make Find My even more useful at the upcoming WWDC 2022.
