MacBook Air 2022 to come with Apple M2 chipset, other specs leaked
Apple had recently unveiled a new set of MacBook computers with the Apple M1 Pro and M1 Max chips. These new chips are big upgrades over the first generation Apple M1 that debuted in 2020. However, Apple is still preparing the terrain for the upcoming Apple M2 chip that will actually start the second generation of Apple ARM-based processors. According to a leakster, the upcoming MacBook Air will be the very first device to employ the Apple M2 chip. In addition to this bit, the leakster also shared other details about the upcoming MacBook Air 2022.
Although one can expect the M2 to be more powerful than the M1 Pro or M1 Max, that may not be the case here. The fact is that the MacBook Air series usually come for conventional users that don't really need professional specifications. That obviously does not mean that the laptop will come with lackluster performance. It should still be better than the first generation Apple M1, but not better than the Pro and Max variants. The M1, in fact, proved to be a huge success inside the MacBook Air.
Interestingly, the leak also states that the upcoming MacBook Air 2022 will not be coming with any sort of cooling fans. This suggests that the Apple M2 silicon is highly efficient and requires less power which in turn generates less heat. The leakster talked about the design of the notebook as well saying that it will be doing away with its familiar wedge shape for a more squarish design not unlike the one found o the current 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. The upcoming MacBook Air will also one thinner and lighter.
The display may adopt the mini-LED technology just like the recently-released Apple MacBook Pro models. The leakster didn't confirm, however, if the new laptops are adopting the notch design. This is one of the most controversial choices of the Apple 2021 computers, and some users didn't enjoy this design. This is strange, in a time that rumors are pointing to the removal of the notch within the iPhone 14 series. The MacBook Air 202 should stay more traditional.
Apart from this, the 2022 MacBook Air will feature USB C ports, a 30W power adapter, full-sized function keys, and multiple external display support according to the tipster. Last but not least, the laptop will be more expensive than its predecessor. The color options will reminisce that of the iMac 24 series. Moreover, the laptop's bezels and keyboards will transition from black to an off-white hue.
The new laptop should make its debut in the first half of 2022. So we expect a plethora of leaks to pop out until then.
