The new Essential Phone could use a new technology to replace the notch

Although the first smartphone produced by Essential has not achieved the desired success, the company directed by Andy Rubin, one of the fathers of Android, seems intent on presenting its successor, which apparently is under development.

Essential Phone PH-2, this could be the name of the new device, could use an innovative technology to replace the notch. Once again we should be faced with an edge-to-edge display but this time there should not be any cutout in the screen.

Essential should insert the front sensor below the screen, which would become partially transparent when taking the picture, allowing the necessary light to pass. At the moment they are studying solutions based on both an LCD screen and an OLED screen, to evaluate all the available options.

Essential Phone PH-2 would use, as shown by the diagram above, a fingerprint reader in the display. There are no official confirmations or launch dates yet, but it is still possible that Andy Rubin's new smartphone will reach the market by the end of 2019.

In the recent months Rubin had talked about a smartphone that is completely different from the ones we know, able to respond to e-mails, make appointments and send messages, and more. We will see if really Essential Phone PH-2 will revolutionize the world of smartphones.
