After a bit of a tussle with the customs department, we finally took receipt of the LeEco Le 2 last night (courtesy Banggood). The phone is nearly identical in looks to the Le 2 Pro with almost the exact same design barring a few changes here and there.
For less than $200 shipped internationally, the Le 2 features fairly impressive hardware, including the new MediaTek MT6797 deca-core processor (dual-core 2.3GHz Cortex-A72 + quad-core 2GHz Cortex-A53 + quad-core 1.4GHz Cortex-A53), 3GB of RAM, a 16 mega-pixel camera, and more.
Like other LeEco phones, this one also run on the company's EUI ROM which although is very fluid to look at, sometimes doesn't make the best use of the available resources.
Call it a placebo effect, but the Le 2 falls second to the Le 2 Pro as long as its build quality we're talking about. There's no difference to speak of on paper, but there's just a slight difference in how good it feels. That said, we're talking about a phone selling for under $200!
The advantage that the Le 2 has over the Pro version is the camera speed -- it's pretty darn fast, in focusing as well as saving the photos. Before this turns into a full-blown comparison between the two phones, let's shift our focus on other aspects of the Le 2.
The phone features a USB Type-C port, that also doubles up as an earphone port. That said, it's heartening to see LeEco ship Type-C to 3.5mm analog converters in the box. Looking at the current situation (loads of phones still being manufactured with micro USB ports), I'm not really sure if 3.5mm ports are going anywhere anytime soon.
LeEco however fancy themselves as a 'modern' open-minded bunch. If you remember, LeEco were the first ones to ship USB Type-C phones back in 2015, and are among the first ones this year to offer phones with no 3.5mm jack.

Worth noting is that Banggood ships the Le 2 with a ROM that has Google support, so you need not do the heavy lifting yourselves.
More will come in the review of the phone in the next two weeks. Meanwhile let us know if you have any questions regarding the phone.
