Windows 11 Android Subsystem gets new features in the latest update

Microsoft surprised the world when it announced an Android sub-system running on Windows 11. After a long period of testing, Microsoft has been rolling out the Android subsystem and improving it in each update. The latest update is the 2205.40000.14.0 major version update. This particular firmware patch brings optimizations and improvements such as advanced networking among other new features.

Microsoft also published an article on the official blog platform. It introduces some hidden features that come with the WSA. Some of the features are brand new, while other were available in the previous versions of Windows 11.

Full-screen application reaches Windows 11

When the WSA was released last fall, one of the most important pieces of feedback Microsoft received was to allow apps to go into "full screen mode," which hides the title bar and taskbar. After long waiting, the feature is finally available on Windows 11. You can enter or exit the full screen by pressing the F11 key, just like a browser.

The scroll wheel simulates sliding left and right

WSA has previously done the work of converting mouse wheel events to swipe up and down. The new Windows 11 update allows it to be converted to swipe left and right if the user holds down the Shift key and uses the wheel. This works the same way you do left-right swiping in Windows apps.

Mouse simulates the two-finger operation

The Windows 11 Android sub-system already supports simulating two-finger operations. In the current iteration, users need to hold down the Alt key and then click or drag with the mouse to send a two-finger touch or swipe operation to the app.

Gamepad support for Windows 11 Android Subsystem

Of course, some users will certainly try to play games through the Windows 11 Android Sub-system. Microsoft is pretty aware of this and wants to deliver a good experience with it. The company added support for Gamepad on some games. The list includes "Hungry Shark: Evolution" and "Tom Cat Parkour". More games will certainly get support in the future.
