Motorola took the first months of this year to unleash some of its Motorola G-series smartphones. These came for the mid-range segment with a set of nice specifications for their price. Later, the company started to focus in the high-end lineup bringing new Motorola Edge smartphones with flagship specifications and high prices. Recently, the company started to give special attention to its budget lineup, the Motorola E-series. Just like Motorola's Moto G-series, the company decided to follow's Samsung's numbering form for its new devices. Last week, the company introduced a super-budget Moto E20 with Android 11 Go. Now, it seems to be preparing the terrain for a Moto E40 that will be placed slightly above its entry-level sibling.
The Moto E40 as its own name suggests will be a step beyond the low-end game. The Moto E20, for starters, provides a super basic experience when you're not really considering the best specs in the market. If you want something better, then the Moto E40 may sound like a better option. Previously, the Moto E40 had some of its specifications confirmed. The device will run an Octa-Core chipset which name is still unknown. It could be a Unisoc T606 just like the Moto E20, or something beyond that. For comparison, the T606 has two Cortex-A75 cores and six A55 cores which isn't really bad.

Moto E40 leaked specifications
The latest round of leaks brings additional details about the camera department and the display. According to the info, the Moto E40 will flaunt a 6.5-inch Display with 720p+ resolution (presumably 1,600 x 720 pixels). The most intriguing fact is that this display will offer a 90 Hz refresh rate. That will be a first for the Moto E-series which always came with 60 Hz displays. This also implies a full-fledged version of Android 11. After all, we're yet to see any Android Go smartphone come with a high refresh rate screen.
In addition to the display, the device also got its camera exposed. The device may hit the shelves with a triple camera setup and the main unit is a 48 MP snapper. The function of the other two is unknown. It could be an ultrawide and depth sensor, but having an ultrawide sensor seems unlikely for a budget device. So, we're betting on a macro + depth combo.
The device sounds similar to the Moto G20, which has a Unisoc T700 chipset, and a 6.5-inch HD+ 90Hz display. The G-series smartphone also packs a 48 MP main camera. We expect both devices to be close siblings, but the E40 will certainly fall behind in some aspects. The leak does not mention, but we can expect a big battery close to the 5,000 mAh mark. Unfortunately, charging will likely be limited to 10W or 15W in the best-case scenario.
