5 things to always consider before buying a new smartphone
The ideal time of the year to upgrade your Android smartphone is right now, as two months of sales and promotions began this week with Black Friday. When purchasing a new device, you must consider additional factors besides the cost, albeit these differ from person to person.
For this reason, I'm here today to share with you the 5 considerations I always make before purchasing a new mobile.
- The battery and the charging speed
- The cameras
- The refresh rate of the screen
- Software updates
- The storage
The 5 things you should always keep in mind before buying a new mobile
The Battery and the charging speed
The first feature I typically consider before buying a new smartphone is its battery. Because, for me, having good autonomy is crucial in my daily life because my smartphone is an additional work tool.
The purchase of a smartphone with a battery capacity of less than 4,000 mAh does not deserve my consideration. Instead, I would suggest a smartphone with a 4,500 or 5,000 mAh battery. In this regard, there are a lot of Android phones with large batteries if you want a device with long battery life.
A fast charging system that enables you to fully charge a device in under an hour is another feature I highly value because I frequently need to give my device a quick battery boost before leaving the house.
The camera
Even though I don't take many photos, I do like having a smartphone that allows me to take high-quality pictures, especially during the day. This is another feature that I typically consider before purchasing a smartphone.
When selecting a mobile device, I typically consider if it has a decent main sensor and a good ultra-wide-angle sensor, both of which should have a good resolution and a good focal aperture.
Additionally, I hardly never take selfies, and these days, any mid-range smartphone has a fine front sensor, so I rarely consider the front camera when choosing a smartphone.

The screen refresh rate
Before replacing my personal smartphone, I always check that the potential replacement has a fluid screen. With a refresh rate of 90 or 120 hertz.
After testing a number of devices throughout the year, I can confidently state that, by the middle of 2022, it is not necessary to purchase a mobile with a 60 Hz panel because the majority of smartphones on the market today have a high refresh rate, which does not negatively affect their autonomy. In addition, the user experience offered by a mobile with a fluid screen is an advantage that you will appreciate.
Software updates
I always search for how many years of updates each manufacturer provides before buying a smartphone. For instance, Samsung offers 5 years of system updates and 4 years of security updates. While Google offers 4 years of system updates and 3 years of security updates.
Other companies, like Xiaomi or Realme, only guarantee you two years of operating system updates. And three years of security updates, in contrast.
This is a crucial point for me. Because it enables me to increase the lifespan of my device. Since receiving updates for a longer period of time results in less performance degradation. And better defense against external threats like viruses and malware.
Storage
Due to the high quality of smartphone cameras today, which takes pictures and videos in high quality and therefore requires a large storage space in addition to the high storage space requirement by modern applications and games, we do not recommend buying a smartphone in 2022 with a storage space less than 128 GB at all, and the recommended space is 256 GB and above.
