We've reported in the past about how Lenovo planned to launch the ZUK Z1 in India very soon.
In fact, it's been learnt that the phone will be sold as the 'Lenovo Z1 - Powered by ZUK'... perhaps to bank on Lenovo's existing market share.
Anyway, another bit of interesting news is that Cyanogen OS (CyanogenMod's commercial flavour) which was exclusive to Micromax's Yu will no longer be an exclusive. In the past, Micromax, OnePlus and Cyanogen Inc. found themselves at loggerheads about the issue, with Yu taking home the rights to use Cyanogen OS.
Now, however, the ROM will be shared by the Lenovo Z1 in India. Anuj Sharma, head of product marketing, Lenovo had the following to say:
It [the deal] was there before that's what I was told by Cyanogen team. But the team now said its ok now. So we are going ahead with the launch.
Kirt McMaster, CEO, Cyanogen revealed in December of 2015:
You probably see more than six domestic and international vendors launching devices running Cyanogen in India.
We are going to expand in India aggressively, and you can expect to see a lot more of us next year. Our Bengaluru team has 11 people, which will grow up to 60 people by the end of 2016. India is the fastest growing mobile market in the planet and we are here to support it. The big focus of the financing is to expand in India.
