The year 2022 has been a good year for many companies around the globe. Even though the global economic crisis is still hitting hard, 2022 has still been better than the Covid years of 2019 and 2020.
This year, we have seen a lot of smartphones from all manufacturers with a lot of innovations also making their ways into the smartphone industry. As a smartphone user, I found it quite difficult to select the best smartphone for personal use.
In selecting my personal smartphone there are five things that I always consider: price, design, camera quality, software and battery life. This helped me narrow down my best smartphones to 5 phones. Out of these five, I was able to select the best one amongst them and I am very happy about my choice.
Below I will list my personal top five smartphones of the year 2022 in descending order according to my level of interest. It does not really matter whether it is a flagship or midrange.
5. Nothing Phone (1) (Best Smartphones of The Year)
The Nothing Phone 1 was release in July 2022 as the first smartphone from Nothing. I call it the most hyped smartphone of the year and this hype is what led me to it. This phone clearly stacks up against the ultra-flagship devices in many ways.
Many reviewers rate it as the best design of the year, and I totally agree with them all. It comes with a very unique design especially from the back. Even though it took some inspiration from the iPhone 12, design, the transparent back glass makes it even more beautiful.
The Nothing Phone (1) comes with Snapdragon 778G 5G chipset and that's the end of the midrange story. The rest is all about flagship, it features a dual 50MP cameras on the back. One main sensor and one ultrawide sensor. It also features 6.55" OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate. It comes with 33W fast charger, 15W wireless charge and 5W reverse wireless charging as well. The device comes with an under-display fingerprint scanner too and the best thing about it is the price. This device starts with a price of $399.
4. Asus Zenfone 9 (Best Smartphones of The Year)
The Asus Zenfone 9 is one phone that is full of surprises. On the outer, it really looks like a midrange or an entry-level phone. But the moment you start to use it, it works like a beast. Beautiful and bright display with 120Hz refresh rate, very fast, smooth and excellent camera.
It has a screen size of 5.9-icnhes, it comes with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and also comes with 4,300mAh battery. You get the option to choose from either 128GB or 256GB with up to 16GB of RAM. It also features a dual camera with 50MP main and 12MP ultrawide camera which can also record 8K videos at 24fps.
The downside of this device is that it comes with a plastic back, it lacks wireless charging, and it is also way too small for the modern-day user. However, a flagship smartphone with a price of $699 will be a good choice for many users out there.
3. Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus (Best Smartphones of The Year)
My third choice will be the Samsung S22 Plus. I feel the design of this phone is prettier than the S22 Ultra. When it comes to the specs, there may be differences but not enough for the extra cash.
The Galaxy S22 Plus features the Exynos 2200 with 8GB of RAM. It also comes with a triple camera setup on the back with 50MP main, 10MP optical zoom and 12MP ultrawide lens. This device can also record 8K/24fps and it comes with a price tag of $455.
2. iPhone 14 Pro (Best Smartphones of The Year)
The iPhone 14 Pro comes with all the features that you may want in a flagship smartphone. From battery strength, screen brightness, camera quality and speed, this phone is an all-round great flagship masterpiece. When it comes to the software, I guess you all know how smooth iOS is right?
It features Apples latest Bionic A16 chip with 6GB of RAM. You also get a triple camera setup with 48MP main, 12MP Optical zoom and 12MP ultrawide lens. You need to squeeze out $999 in order to get your hands on this.
1. Google Pixel 7 Pro (Best Smartphones of The Year)
Finally, the Google Pixel 7 Pro is my best smartphone of the year 2022. From design, camera quality to battery life. The Google Pixel 7 Pro has the best flagship design in my opinion. When it comes to the software, no smartphone even comes close.
The Google Pixel 7 Pro is the true definition of what a true smartphone should be. It does not have the best battery life out there, but just enough to carry you though your day. The best smartphone with the best price of $899 looks like a real value for money to me.
