Google Will Limit Wireless Charging to 5W on Non-Approved Chargers

Google just came out with a very Apple-like announcement today for their latest Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. The company did indeed reveal that both wireless charging capable devices won't be charging at the maximum speed when used in tandem with a non-approved wireless charger.

"We don’t limit third-party devices, in fact, were working with our partners in the Made for Google program to get fast wireless 10W chargers certified for use with Pixel 3. Pixel Stand and Pixel 3 work together through the protocol we’ve developed for fast charging. Everything else charged at the industry standard Qi 5W."

So, basically, if you do not buy one of the approved chargers, you'll only be able to charge your smartphone at 5W, down from the 10W allowed on the Pixel 3 series. Which is already not that fast compared to something like Samsung's latest flagship lineup that can charge at 15W.

We, of course, understand that Google are trying to bring the best possible user experience to their customers, helping them avoid problems with lower quality products, yet, we aren't sure this Apple-like move is the way to go. They could have simply put a warning which makes clear of the dangers of using "rogue" wireless chargers.
