Helio G99 announced: even faster and more energy-efficient

Today, the chipmaker MediaTek has expanded its portfolio of branded chips by presenting three new products at once. We have already talked about Dimensity 1050 and Dimensity 930 , and now it's time to get acquainted with Helio G99. The company says that it is targeting a new generation of gaming smartphones with 4G support.

Helio G99 is based on a 6-nanometer process technology and has eight cores arranged according to the “2 + 6” scheme. Cortex-A76 with a peak frequency of 2.2 GHz and Cortex-A55 operating at a frequency of 2.0 GHz. The processor has a Mali-G57 MC2 graphics chip; offers support for LPDDR4X RAM at a frequency of 2133 MHz and UFS 2.2 flash memory.

Helio G99 offers MediaTek HyperEngine 2.0 Lite gaming technology, supports FullHD+ displays up to 120Hz and cameras up to 108MP. There is support for Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 5 and Cat-13 4G LTE. Among the advantages of the new processor, the manufacturer highlights a 30% improvement in energy efficiency compared to the Helio G96. Such a tangible result was achieved thanks to the use of 6-nm technology, while the predecessor was manufactured according to the 12-nm process technology.

The first smartphones with Helio G99 will appear in the third quarter of this year.

Helio G99: Chip for gaming 4G smartphones

Counterpoint analysts has recently assessed the Android smartphone processor market in the first quarter of this year.

In the market as a whole, MediaTek leads with a 44% share, while Qualcomm holds 35%. But in the segment of the most expensive smartphones with a price of $ 900, 73% of the market already belongs to Qualcomm.

Qualcomm platforms dominates all segments from $300 and up. Almost everywhere, the company's share is about 71-73%, but it is worth highlighting a striking exception in the form of the $800-899 segment, where the share of Huawei and Google is much larger than in other segments. Apparently, sales of the Google Pixel 6 Pro and Huawei flagships are affected here.

MediaTek dominates the $100-$299 segments and has parity with Unisoc in the sub-$100 segment. That is, MediaTek owes its dominance to the market as a whole exclusively to affordable smartphones.

Of the rest, as we already know, we note Unisoc's huge share in the budget segment itself. Also, for comparison: a year ago, in the same segment, the share of the company's platforms was only 20%.

As for Samsung, the share of its Exynos platforms in the premium segment decreased from 34% to 23% in a year.
