iOS 16 / iPadOS 16 will get five new features during the year
Today, Apple released the official version of the iOS 16.1 update. This is the first major update of the iOS 16 operating system since its public release. The company also released the official version of iPadOS 16. Both of these updates bring many features to Apple's iPhone and iPad users. However, Apple's instructions reveal that five features will delay until this year.
iOS 16/ iPadOS 16 upcoming features
1. External monitor support
One of Apple's signature features of iPadOS 16 is pre-stage scheduling. However, the pre-stage scheduling support for external displays has been delayed until later in 2022. This feature supports resolutions up to 6K. It allows users to ideally organize their workspace. The feature can run to 4 apps simultaneously on each of the iPad and an external monitor.
2. Play games together with SharePlay
SharePlay on Apple's iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 will see a new feature later this year. Users will be able to use SharePlay to play games with friends and family via FaceTime. This feature is available for games that have Game Center integration and support multiplayer. In iOS 16 and iPadOS 16, Apple has extended SharePlay to be built into apps like iMessage.
3. Boundless
Apple will launch a "Boundless Note Freeform" app later this year. "Boundless Note" is a productivity app that allows users to write and draw. Users can jot down flashes of inspiration, or add any needed information. It will be available on iOS, iPadOS and macOS.
4. SOS via satellite
The satellite SOS feature exclusive to Apple's iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro series will be available in November. Users will be able to make emergency SOS calls via satellite communications on the iPhone. Emergency SOS via satellite will initially only be available in the US and Canada. In addition, it will be free to users for the first two years. After the free period, Apple will announce the price for subscribing to this feature.
5. Apple Music Classical
In August 2021, Apple acquired Primephonic, a streaming service focused on classical music. In the announcement, Apple said it would release a dedicated Apple Music Classical app designed and customized for classical music in 2022.
