iPad 10th generation undergoes durability test, did it survive?

The new iPad 10th generation has passed through a durability test and teardown by YouTuber Zack Nelson (JerryRigEverything). To recap, the iPad 10th gen went official back in October.

The 10th generation of iPad is available in a myriad of color options. Now, the Pink-tinted iPad has been put to a comprehensive durability test by JerryRigEverything.a

The popular YouTuber used his tool kit to perform the durability test as well as a teardown. First, we see a USB Type-C to USB Type-C charging cable and a 20W charging break after unboxing the iPad.

Notably, Apple claims the iPad is made using 100 percent recycled aluminum, according to a report by 91mobiles. The new iPad has ditched the traditional Lightning port in favor of the USB-C port.

However, Zack points out that Apple is only supporting 1st-gen Lighting connector Apple Pencil on a USB Type-C iPad. So, iPad users will have to shell out more money to buy a USB-C dongle.

iPad 10th Generation Durability Test

Zack has uploaded the iPad 10th gen durability test video to his YouTube channel. This 10-minute-long video features a scratch test.

The display shows visible marks at Level 6 and even deeper grooves at level 7 on the Mohs hardness scale. Next, the sides of the tablet undergo a scrape test.

The YouTuber suggests Apple used anodized aluminum to make the side of the tablet. Now, the power button that also serves as a fingerprint scanner does not show any scratches.

However, the rear panel show scratches as Zack starts sketching a cartoon character. Later, the screen is subject to a fire test for 15 seconds using a lighter.

After turning black for some time, the pixels on the LCD panel recover. The iPad 10th gen then goes through a bend test. Regrettably, the tablet breaks into two pieces when Zack applies pressure from the back.

So, the iPad 10th gen failed the durability test. The YouTuber explains the keyboard connector dots on the side edge are the iPad's weak spot.

Lastly, Zack gives us a glimpse into the internal of the iPad. Also, he claims that “this iPad does look pretty repairable." To those unaware, Apple is reportedly planning to ditch the iPad Mini lineup in 2025. Instead, the American tech giant might introduce a foldable iPad series.
