iPhone XS waterproof fails - cost a whopping 4800 yuan ($694) to fix

We know that the Apple iPhone XS is waterproof, but reports from Mr. Wang of Guizhou claims that the phone is vulnerable in this regard. According to him, his iPhone XS accidentally dropped into the bathtub and entered the water. According to Mr. Wang, he immediately took it out and used a desiccant for conventional water absorption treatment. This caused damage to the facial recognition function. However, customer service claims that it needs to be repaired at 4800 yuan ($694) at it's his own expense.

Mr. Wang said that he couldn't understand it the fee, because according to Apple, the iPhone XS could stay underwater at a depth of 2 meters for a maximum of 30 minutes. Interestingly, the phone was still under warranty. Why should I repair it at the expense of water?

In this regard, Apple ’s customer service personnel explained its water resistance is only for anti-splash. For Apple, this is an artificial damage and it will not covered by warranty. However, Apple's official website shows that the iPhone XS Max can be splash-proof, water-resistant, and dust-proof. However, the official website warns that the splash, water and dustproof functions are not permanent and the protection performance may be reduced due to daily wear and tear. Damage caused by immersion in liquid is not covered by the warranty.
