JioPhone 5G and JioBook expected to debut at RIL GM 2021
Jio had contributed major breakthroughs in the telecom sector of India. It's so-called "effectively free" JioPhone has been one among them which made millions to have the access to blazing-fast 4G at an affordable rate. Now it seems, Jio has a plan to launch the 5G variant of its iconic JioPhone along with the JioBook at the upcoming RIL GM (General Meeting).
As per the source, the 5G-ready JioPhone will be powered by Android OS, unlike the Original JioPhone which comes with KaiOS. Reliance Jio is working closely with the Android owner - Google to have an optimized Android for the JioPhone.
Indeed, the JioPhone 5G is still in development, with the R&D speculated to be completed by June. While its launch may be some time in the second quarter of 2021. Most probably, the debut should happen at Reliance’s annual general meeting (AGM) which happens to be in August or September.
While we don't have the official details of the hardware spec which JioPhone 5G yet; there are rumours regarding Jio developing its JioOS. Which is a forked or custom version of Google’s Android operating system for better integration. If done correctly, the JioOS offer optimised performance and a seamless experience on Jio applications.
JioBook
It's likely to be powered by a Qualcomm chipset. Interestingly, we may even see JioOS based on Android instead of Windows 10 on the JioBook laptop. Being an entry-level laptop, it is supposed to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC. Moreover, it is will feature a 1366 × 768 resolution display. The laptop is expected to come with a 2GB of LPDDR4X RAM paired with 32GB of eMMC storage. We can even expect a higher-end model of JioBook which may come with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB of eMMC 5.1 storage.
