Karbonn launches a $99 Windows Phone 8.1 smartphone

As the Motorola CEO put rightly, days of US$600-US$700 are long gone. Karbonn seems to be in serious agreement to that, and more.

Karbonn, as many of you might recall, is among the 'chosen three' partners for Google with Android One. Another thing that's more or less analogous is the pricing; the device that we are going to talk about here costs just 5,999 INR or US$99.

It's the Titanium Wind W4. Karbonn, and a lot of Indian manufacturers have a knack of giving their smartphones some really long names (read: Wickedleak Wammy Neo Youth), which often dismiss a lot of the appeal about device names. Anyway, coming back to the Titanium Wind W4 - the US$99 phone comes with a tiny-ish 4-inch 800 x 480 pixel display, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor from Snapdragon, 512MB of RAM. That, and the fact that it runs Windows Phone 8.1 clearly states that it is definitely not aiming for the Redmi 1S.

Specifications

  • 4-inch 800 x 480p display
  • 1.2GHz dual-core processor
  • 512MB RAM
  • 4GB on-board storage
  • 5 mega-pixel rear camera
  • VGA front camera
  • Windows Phone 8.1

There's no word on the battery capacity yet, but even then it is pretty safe to assume that the Canvas Win W092 at about 500 INR or US$8 more is a much better buy.
