Mediatek announce plans for quad-core and 8-core LTE chips

After announcing another record quarter Mediatek have also let slip plans for their affordable SoC range of next year.

In just a few weeks Mediatek will officially launch the 8-core MT6592 processor, the first every true 8-core chipset to ship specifically designed for smartphones and other Android devices. We also know that a new quad-core processor is on the way, and now we also know a few more details about their LTE equipped range.

If Mediatek stay true to their schedule the first 4G LTE processors will be shipped during June of 2014, but rather than just offering quad-core options it also appears an 8-core 4G LTE processor is launching too.

Full specs won’t be unveiled for some time, but we can assume these new chipsets will be based on upcoming models with updated Mali GPU’s will run at speeds of up to 2Ghz. One detail we do know is that these chips will offer support for TD-LTE, FDD-LTE,TD-SCDMA,WCDMA and GSM/EDGE.
