MediaTek and ARM have signed a deal allowing the Taiwanese chip maker to use ARM’s Cortex A50 processors and ARM Mali Graphics chips.
ARM have signed a deal with MediaTek allowing the up and coming processor manufacturer to use semiconductor IP for ARM Cortex A50 series processors and ARM Mali graphics.
The ARM Coretex-A57 and A53 technology which Mediatek now have the rights to use supports the ARMv8-A Architecture with wither 64-bit and 32-bit execution. These processors will bring better performance to Android smartphones and tablets which remaining compatible with the current 32-bit ecosystem allowing manufacturers to simply update to the new SoC tech.
As Mediatek are on the verge of releasing their new 8-core MT6592 and 4G LTE processors we don’t expect the new ARM deal to make it’s way in to Chinese phones until the 2nd quarter of next year.
