Qualcomm lost the crown of the largest Android chip maker in the global market to Mediatek back in 2020, but still held the top spot in the US. Now the leadership of the American chipmaker in the home market has come to an end.

Yesterday, during the presentation of new chips, MediaTek announced that it has become the number one chip manufacturer for Android devices in the United States. At the same time, the company referred to the report of IDC analysts for the fourth quarter of last year. An analysis of the US market showed that the Taiwanese chipmaker's processors account for 51% of the market; while Qualcomm's share is 47%.

As the reasons for the increase in the share of MediaTek, he points to the growth in sales of devices with its chipsets. In particular, the Samsung Galaxy A12 4G, Galaxy A32, Moto G Pure, T-Mobile Revvl V Plus and Boost Celero models have become popular. Analysts believe that MediaTek's leadership in the US was not a surprise, the company was steadily moving towards success, concentrating on the budget and mid-range segments. Experts give credit to the Taiwanese chipmaker that it was able to become number one in the US despite the fact that its chips do not have mmWave 5G connectivity, and major network players such as Verizon are actively using this technology.
