Here’s what we think the Meizu MX5 will have when it is released tomorrow

Tomorrow Meizu are set to make finally reveal and announce specifications for the Meizu MX5. What could this latest flagship have to offer? Here is what we know so far.

It is no secret that Meizu will hold a launch tomorrow, but what they will launch is still unsure. Sources claim it will be both the m2 and a flagship Meizu MX5, the latter is what we are most interested in today.

Meizu have been quiet about an MX5 launch and so they should really as it was less than a year ago the Zhuhai based phone maker unveiled the current MX4. For what ever reason they have though they seem adamant to phase last years products out as quickly as possible and replace them with new phones.

From sources and leaked photos we believe the Meizu MX5 will have a complete alloy unibody as opposed to the plastic/alloy chassis of the current MX4. This will mean the MX5 will have no removable rear panel and the SIM (and possibly SD card) will be accessible through trays on the side of the phone.

What has changed on the rear is the 20.7 mega-pixel rear sensor from Sony and a dual LED light design. In fact the overall look of the MX5 should remain familiar to Meizu fans, but with a little more of a nod to the alloy chassis of the iPhone 6.

With no removable rear the hope of a removable battery has also faded (not that Meizu offered that on the MX4). The built in battery is believed to have been sourced from Sony once again with a capacity of 3150mAh. Charging could be of the fast variety with what Meizu are calling mCharge. We actually believe this to be a rebranded version of Mediatek’s Pump Express Plus.

This brings us neatly on to the Mediatek link. Just as the MX4 was a flagship powered by a Mediatek chip so could the MX5. The processor rumoured for the phone is the Helio X10 chipset, a very powerful SoC which supports LTE speeds of up to 150Mbps. The X10 also boasts an octacore A53 design and has a PowerVR G6200 GPU.

On the front the display is expected to be a 5.5-inch 1080 display, so slightly larger than the MX4, plus a physical home button below it on the chin. This will mean the MX5 will be a much longer phone than the previous MX4, although the width should remain compact thanks to narrow bezels.

That physical button is also where a fingerprint scanner should reside, and we can see from images the button has been redesigned to give it a more rounded and visually appealing look.

Other details of the MX5 include a 5 mega-pixel front camera, Flyme 4 based on Lollipop, 3GB RAM, 16GB internal memory. Pricing is rumoured to remain at only 1799 Yuan in China, but expect a much higher price for international customers.
