Microsoft's Cortana will be 'deeply integrated' into Cyanogen OS

Cyanogen Inc. does seem to want to take Android away from Google. After announcing a tie-up with Truecaller, Cyanogen Inc. has now made a pact with Microsoft for a new integration.

This means that Microsoft's Cortana voice-based virtual assistant will now be found in the core of future versions of Cyanogen OS. It's been a few weeks since Cortana was made available for Android phones, but this is the first time news of it being integrated into a retail OS has come up.

"Natural language coupled with intelligence is very important but as an application it doesn't rally work because you need to be embedded into the framework of the OS because that is where you get all the signal from the services that makes that intelligence smarter," said Kirk McMaster, CEO, Cyanogen Inc.

This isn't the first time Microsoft has worked with Cyanogen Inc. The two firms got into a deal months earlier when McMaster said they want to take "Android's future out of Google's hands".

Developments such as these only but make you wonder if the essence of a lightweight firmware that we've come to know as Cyanogen OS will be lost.
