Gionee's latest (and greatest?) Android smartphone was unveiled at MWC. The 5.5mm Gionee Elife S7 is a quality looking smartphone, but how does it feel and run once in the hand?
Gionee love to make a thin phone. Their thinnest is still the 5.1mm Gionee Elife S5.1, but their latest is the newly released Gionee Elife S7. Don't be fooled by the name though, this is a 5.5mm Android smartphone, and it features some nice updates over its predecessor.
Picking the Elife S7 up for the first time gives you a very good impression of the quaity of this thin Android smartphone. It feels great in the hand thanks to an alloy chassis with machined 'U' channel which actually adds grip to the edges, and the flat glass panels front and rear fit flush keeping allowing the phone to maintain it's thin measurments from edge to edge.
Gionee went for a unibody design so a SIM tray allows access to your SIM and, thanks to the slightly thicker body, a larger 2750mAh battery has been brought in to play.
5.5-inch is usually where phone makers aim to be at with their latest phones, but I am happy to see Gionee went for a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. It's a good form factor that isn't much larger than a 5-inch phone but add a little more useable screen space to your device.
Other features of the Gionee Elife S7 include an 8 mega-pixel front camera, 13 mega-pixel rear, Amigo OS 3.0 based on Android 5.0 Lollipo and a 3.5mm headphone jack (a feature Gionee were eager to point out in teasers before the launch).
Gionee have confirmed a launch of the Elife S7 in China and India, and quoted a retail price of 399 Euros during the launch event, that's quite a lot to ask even for a well made MT6752 phone with quality build and Androd Lollipop. What do you think?
