Netflix: you can now expel whoever you want from your account
While shared accounts have long been a practical method to maximize your Netflix experience, the company warned customers some months ago that misuse of this feature might result in legal action beginning in 2023. The company has already taken some steps to pursue those too much shared accounts, and now there is more information about it.
Netflix continues its war against shared accounts. Netflix launched a Basic plan with advertising and a new shared account policy. As a result of the bad results and membership losses disclosed in April and July.
Users who share an account and live at another address will now be required to pay an additional fee under the new scheme. Although the initial tests were not very successful, Netflix is still developing it.
Indeed, they just recently introduced the "Account Transfer" option, which is specifically designed to address this novel circumstance. Users who "exit" from the shared account can, for example, keep their preferences and move them to a new account that is exclusively theirs thanks to this feature.
Netflix continues its war against shared accounts
We may now locate a new option in our account settings. You can view recent devices that have accessed the service through our account. By using the feature named "Manage Access and Devices."
So, you can expel those devices from the account with a single click in addition to consulting this data. The much-requested feature to assist members in managing the security of their accounts is now accessible to all members of the world on the web, iOS, and Android, according to Netflix.
The tool gives complete control to the account's primary subscriber, whoever manages it from their email account and pays for the subscription. Which creates complex scenarios. For example, if you share with the person who pays and they decide to expel you for any reason (legitimate or not), they will be able to do so.
True, it can also be used to kick out users who shared an account and may not have paid their fair share of the subscription. Prior to this new measure, Netflix did offer the option to log out from all devices. But it now gives the subscriber who pays for the shared account more control.
Netflix already lets you transfer profiles
Recently, Netflix unveiled "Profile Transfer" which is a new feature that allows users of your account to transfer a profile when they create their own membership, according to those in charge.
The persecution of shared accounts, which will increase significantly in 2023, is the sole justification for the new feature's existence. This tool is clear evidence that account sharing will soon be challenging (or more expensive).
According to the release, the feature would let you establish a new account if you cease sharing an account. Without losing your preferences or history.
Why would you cease account sharing? According to Netflix, "people move, families grow, and relationships end". And it is true that in those circumstances the option is appropriate.
However, we do not know the actual cause. Netflix has implemented two distinct measures. As a result of the subscriber decline it experienced in April and the increase it experienced in July. The first is the implementation of a Basic plan with advertising.
Second, if you share a Netflix account and use the service from a location other than your home, you will be required to pay an additional fee.
This new modality of shared accounts is already being tested in some countries. And there the price increase for the users that you add to the shared account is different. Depending on the Netflix plan and country.
Although it appears that the initial tests were unsuccessful. The activation of this "Profile Transfer" feature indicates that the new account sharing policy will soon be implemented globally.
