Nokia 2 will receive Android 8.1 Oreo soon

The little boy of Nokia, released in 2017 with Android 7.1.1 Nougat, is waiting for the stable update to Android 8.1 Oreo for a while now. Nokia 2 has been excluded from the recent list of devices that will be updated to Android 9.0 Pie by the company, probably because of its low-end technical specifications, but this does not stop users from asking at least for the previous software.

The company has finally expressed itself on this matter, revealing that the reason for such waiting is the technical specifications of the smartphone. Nokia 2 is in fact equipped by a Snapdragon 212 and a single GB of RAM, numbers that make updating to Android 8.1 very difficult, given the greater technical requirements required; therefore, the company is still evaluating which tradeoffs to accept, working closely with Google and Qualcomm.

Nokia therefore ensures that the smartphone will be updated via OTA (soon), but also warns that the update will cause a slight slowdown of the user experience due to the aforementioned technical specifications. The ideal would be a transition to the less exhilarating Android Oreo Go Edition, but being a smartphone released with the standard version of Android, an operation of this kind can not be carried out.

For those wishing to keep a faster experience, it is therefore recommended not to upgrade to Android Oreo, but at the expense of new features and probably even security updates.
