In a bid to cover up lost ground, top Indian smartphone maker Micromax today unveiled the Canvas Nitro A 310 at a price point that'll make buyers think twice before hitting the 'add to cart' button for the Mi 3 (that is, if it goes on sale again).
The Canvas Nitro comes with an octa-core processor and a healthy 2GB of RAM, which is gradually becoming the standard for mid-range phones in more and more markets each day. The phone however does not have a full HD display which you would expect a flagship to have, so it is possible that Micromax have something bigger planned for later this year.
Besides the octa-core MT6592 CPU, 2GB RAM and 5-inch HD display, the Canvas Nitro has a 13 mega-pixel rear camera with the sensor sourced from Sony (IMX135) along with a 5 mega-pixel front camera. Thanks to low LTE penetration in its main market, there's no 4G support on the Canvas Nitro, but the phone does work with HSPA+ networks on 3G.
Specifications
- 5-inch 1280 x 720p display
- 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6592 CPU
- 2GB RAM
- 8GB on-board expandable ROM
- 13 mega-pixel rear camera
- 5 mega-pixel front camera
- 2500mAh battery
- Android v4.4 KitKat
Lastly, a 2,500mAh battery is what powers the phone. It's a removable unit, so you can always swap one for another if you fall short of juice in the middle of the day. Also like we mentioned from the teasers, the Canvas Nitro does feature a leather-ish rear akin to the ex-Galaxy Note flagship.

The Canvas Nitro gets a 12,990 INR or $215 price tag in India, and is seen as a decent option for budget smartphone seekers in the country.
