Redmi 5 Plus pays a visit to the Wi-Fi Alliance, nears release

Since the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus went official in Taiwan, we've been gunning for its global release in February. That seems even more likely with the affordable smartphone having popped up at Wi-Fi Alliance. Xiaomi has also kicked off the Explorer program in India which is yet another hint that the Redmi 5 Plus is close to release.

What we've managed to salvage from the Wi-Fi listing is little and unsurprising. Apart from the green lights the Xiaomi handset has got, we now know the Redmi 5 Plus global version will also come with Android 7.1.2 Nougat, in other words, MIUI 9.

There's still the hot debate that Xiaomi might upgrade the Redmi 5 Plus processor and present it as the Redmi Note 5. But as of now, that is just speculation. What is now clear is that the handset is just weeks away from a global launch. And by weeks we mean at most three.

The Redmi 5 Plus launch will also accompany a Redmi 5 launch most likely as they are of the same Redmi line. The Redmi 5 Plus features a new 5.99-inch 18:9 aspect ratio display with Full HD+ resolution. Under the hood, the Snapdragon 625 SoC runs the show coupled with 3/4GB RAM, 32/64GB of expandable storage. A massive 4,000 mAh battery powers the Redmi phone. The Redmi 5 Plus costs 999 Yuan and global pricing likely won't vary by much going by Xiaomi's track record.
