Samsung said to be working on self-made GPUs

More and more Samsung phones lately have been flaunting Exynos chipsets, including many of its flagships. If you aren't aware, the Exynos line is Samsung's own, in-house series of chipsets that range from entry-level to high-end in processing prowess.

The Exynos line has been quite a successful one for Samsung too; it's featured in devices other than those made by Samsung. This clientele includes China's very own Meizu. Meizu has been utilizing Exynos SoCs in a lot of its phones including the MX2, MX3 and perhaps even the upcoming MX4 Pro.

It's only natural for Samsung to consider makings its own GPU hardware, so as to give extensive licensing fees and formalities a miss. This will not only allow Samsung to save a lot, but it'll also give the Korean giant much more freedom to go about making phones. Current Samsung Exynos chipsets make use of ARM's Mali GPU series which is another popular lot.

Samsung has been criticized of making more phones than required, and a free-from-licences state could be like fueling the fire. What do you think about this?
