The Qualcomm 2022 Snapdragon Summit will be held in Haitang Bay, Sanya from November 16th to November 18th. If nothing else, the protagonist should be the new Snapdragon 8 Gen2 mobile platform. However, its rival will arrive before that date. Taiwanese chipmaker, MediaTek will release the Dimensity 9200 on November 8th. With the launch of a new generation of mobile processors, major mobile phone manufacturers will follow up with new smartphones. These devices will obviously use these new processors. For example, Vivo X90 Pro is a dual platform of Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen2 and MediaTek Dimensity 9200. The likes of the Xiaomi 13 series and Moto X40 will come with the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 processor.
While we await the official launch of these chips, we already have some technical details of the processors. Popular Weibo tech blogger @DCS revealed these specs in a recent Weibo post
Snapdragon 8 Gen2 (SM8550)
TSMC 4nm, 1 x 3.19GHz X3 + 2 x 2.8GHz A715 + 2 x 2.8GHz A710 + 3 x 2.0GHz A510, Adreno 740
Dimensity 9200 (MTK DX2)
TSMC 4nm, 1 x 3.05GHz X3 + 3 x 2.85GHz A715 + 4 x 2.0GHz A510, Immortalis-G715 MC11
In other words, the two new platforms are based on TSMC's latest 4nm process, the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 uses a 1+2+2+3 quad-cluster with Adreno 740 GPU design, while the Dimensity 9200 is a conventional 1+3+ 4 Tri-cluster with Immortalis-G715 MC11 GPU.
According to the blogger @Digital Chat Station, the first batch of new flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen2 filings are almost ready, and two manufacturers will be the first to release them at the end of November. The first release date is about November 22. There will also be two models in early December. The approximate launch date for these models is December 2nd and December 3rd.
