Back in August 2020, Samsung launched its next generation of smartwatches with rotating bezels. Yes! we're talking about the Galaxy Watch 3. Well, it looks like the chaebol is now working on the 2021 iteration of its Galaxy Watch lineup. A couple of days ago, a report surfaced online claiming that the next smart wearable will bear two model numbers namely SM-R86x and SM-R87x.
Looking at these model numbers, it's safe to assume that the next wearable will fall under the original Galaxy Watch lineup. Furthermore, two model numbers aren't a surprise as Galaxy Watch generally comes in two sizes. Fast forward to today, we're now looking at another report revealing key information.
Next Galaxy Watch to come with codename 'Wise' and 'Fresh'!
According to a report by GalaxyClub, Samsung is planning to launch two versions of the next-gen Galaxy Watch with codename Wise and Fresh. Sadly, there is no concrete information as to what these codenames represent. If we were to guess, it looks like the codename Wise might point towards the Tizen edition of the wearable. The Fresh, on the other hand, could be the one running on WearOS.
If all these sound unusual to you, then you might not be aware that Samsung is planning to ditch Tizen for the WearOS - at least that's what the recent report claims. Samsung used to first use Android Wear (now, WearOS) for its smartwatches but then decided to went all Tizen in 2014. Since then, Samsung has put out some of the amazing smartwatches with a premium user experience.
For instance, the current-gen Galaxy Watch 3 is one of the best smartwatches out there. It's got all the health and fitness features that work exceptionally well. Furthermore, the rotating bezel and the Tizen software works fluently well with each other.
Should you be excited about the WearOS?
If Samsung is pushing out some of the best smartwatches in the market, then why the sudden decision of switching to WearOS? Well, there's no concrete explanation for this new revelation and in fact, Samsung hasn't even made any official announcement. While Tizen works quite well on Galaxy Watches, it does lack developer support meaning a limited number of apps.
This lack of applications might be one of the reasons for keeping potential buyers away. Samsung might want to fix it by opting for a WearOS version. Furthermore, the WearOS version would attract more buyers who would prefer WearOS over Tizen any day. Another reason could be the growing relationship between Google and Samsung.
With that said, it would be interesting to see what Samsung has in stores for its next iteration of Galaxy Watches.
