This year's Mobile World Congress is looking out to be quite grim as yet another company has decided not to attend the most important event in the mobile industry. Chinese phone maker - Vivo - has just cancelled their presence at MWC 2020 altogether along with all other events they had planned on Spanish land.

Vivo had indeed scheduled a launch event out of the main MWC convention center, to announce a new concept phone; most likely the Vivo APEX 2020. This would've been the first ever official Vivo event out of China. Either way, here's the official press release in its entirety:

[su_quote cite="Vivo"]vivo has been closely monitoring the Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia (NCP) outbreak and continuously evaluating planned activities. The health and safety of our employees and the public are our top priority. Based on the present situation, we have decided to withdraw from our debut at MWC 2020 and other related events later this month in Barcelona, Spain.

We will introduce the APEX 2020 concept phone which we had originally planned to showcase at MWC soon. We will share more updates in due course.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused and would like to thank our partners, media friends and consumers for their understanding. [/su_quote]

So, just like Sony, LG and many other brands, also Vivo withdrew from MWC 2020 due to Coronavirus fears. The launch event planned for February 23rd - to which we were invited - has been cancelled as well.

This means that the much awaited Vivo APEX 2020 concept phone will be announced later on. Although, sadly, very few - if any - will be able to show an actual hands-on with the device.

MWC 2020 is losing some major players in these last days. The main show floors where we usually find the "big brands" will most likely look deserted. Who's going to withdraw next?
