Vivo's first manufacturing unit in India now alive and kicking

Joining the likes of Xiaomi and Gionee is China's own Vivo, the newest company to join the 'Make in India' bandwagon.

'Make in India' is a government initiative wherein companies are given various benefits to bring their manufacture to India instead of importing products. This is mainly to protect domestic trade and bring business inside the country.

Vivo's manufacturing unit is situated in Greater Noida, close to the nation's capital of New Delhi. Chinese Ambassador to India, Le Yucheng accompanied Alex Feng, CEO of Vivo Mobile India for the inauguration.

Models including the Y11, Y21, and Y15S will be manufactured assembled at the plant, with more to be added.

The 30,000 sq.m. facility is expected to create 2,200 jobs, and was made possible due to Vivo's ₹1.25 billion investments. It'll be interesting to see if this shift in manufacturing locations brings about one in the pricing also.
