Xiaomi 13 upgrades
Camera
As the flagship for the year, the Xiaomi 13 greatly improves the camera. The standard model will come with Sony IMX800 series main camera. The sensor size is 1/1.49 inches, and the single pixel size can further increase to 2μm after a four-in-one pixel sensor. This will help to obtain better image quality and tolerance. In comparison with the Xiaomi 12 which uses the IMX766 sensor, Xiaomi 13 comes with a 54MP sensor and the size of the base is larger. Also, Xiaomi adds some AI algorithm adjustments to this new sensor to boost its performance. The main camera as well as the telephoto sensor will also support OIS.
In addition to the main camera, this device will also use a 10MP Leica telephoto lens that supports 3.2x optical zoom. This device supports a Leica 75mm humanistic telephoto lens with an f/2.0 super large aperture. The company said that this will be the most useful sub-camera in the Xiaomi digital series. Also, it will be the sub-camera with a very high usage rate. According to reports, the Xiaomi 13 IMX989 1-inch outsole main camera beats the performance of the iPhone 13 Pro Max sensor. It has a 72% increase in photosensitive area, a 76% increase in light sensitivity, a 32.5% increase in camera speed, and an 11% increase in startup speed.
Colour and Build material
According to reports, the Xiaomi 13 series will have four colours. These colours include black, white, green and pink. Of these colour options, the green and pink will have plain leather versions. However, there are reports that this series could have up to 10 colour options.
For the first time, Xiaomi adopts the environmentally friendly organic silicon leather material on the 12S Ultra. According to the official, the material can be renewed with a light wipe. It is not easy for this material to lose colour or peel even after long-term use. The company also customizes the top layer of calfskin to make it more skin-friendly. This also makes it hard to slip and fall off. In addition, the use of a natural silicon ore raw material makes the environmentally friendly. The organic silicon leather of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is upgraded in the Xiaomi 13 series.
Lei Jun: The IMX989 one-inch outsole is a decent sensor
Recently, Xiaomi's CEO, Lei Jun said that the Sony IMX989 one-inch outsole has a good reputation. He claims that it is the choice of many photographers after it was first released on the Mi 12S Ultra. After six months of steady improvement, the company had to deploy it in the Xiaomi 13 series. Lei Jun emphasized that this time the Pro image will definitely reach a new level.
IMX989 is a new gen of one-inch sensor jointly developed by Xiaomi and Sony. The brands spent 100 million yuan ($14.3 million) on R&D, and the two companies each paid half each. Xiaomi's engineering team has been deeply involved in the spec's definition. It is also part of the design and verification of the IMX989. Sony also approved Xiaomi's R&D work by email.
The IMX989 fusion pixel area can reach a terrifying 3.2um, and the dynamic range is excellent. When shooting gradient colours such as the sky and sunset, the restoration is very accurate. Also, the picture purity is very high.
Xiaomi 13 uses a small straight screen
The Xiaomi 13 standard model comes with a straight screen with straight edges. Although there were concerns regarding the "straightness" of the display, the reservation figures are very encouraging.
At present, Xiaomi’s official Jingdong reservation link shows that the number of reservations for the standard version now exceeds 227,000. As for the Pro model, its reservations just exceed 200,000. The standard version has always been in the leading position. In addition, the screen of the standard version of the Xiaomi 13 is also more pleasing this time.
Many users still prefer a small and handy mobile phone. This is what the standard model is offering. It adopts a small screen design with a 6.2-inch display that has thin bezels. The left, right and upper bezels are only 1.61 mm wide. The chin which is the widest part is only 1.81 mm. The iPhone 14 and 14 Pro has bezels that are 2.4 mm and 2.15 mm wide respectively. This new flagship from Xiaomi will bring a very strong visual impact. Also, the single punch-hole design of the Xiaomi 13 will make the screen visual effect far better than that of the iPhone 14.
The Xiaomi 13 series will come with the latest and highest flagship chip in the Android market, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. These mobile phones will also support IP68 waterproof and dustproof, Leica imaging, etc., and we can say that this device comes with an all-round "upgrade".
