Oppo teases smartphone with retractable camera

Oppo has finally confirmed when its annual Inno Day will take place in China. The company will finally host its innovation-centric event on December 14 and 15 next week. As usual, the event will be the house of Oppo's innovative ideas, futuristic technologies, and concepts. We may see another demo of the company's rolling smartphone or even the first demo of its upcoming foldable smartphone. Amidst rumors and leaks, there is one thing confirmed, the company will unveil an innovative and unique retractable camera module.

Oppo unveiled a new video teaser through its Twitter handle that reveals a retractable camera sensor that protrudes outwards. The text on the camera module reveals that the device has a 1/1.56" camera sensor with a 50 mm focal length and an f / 2.4 aperture. Unfortunately, Oppo did not dive deep into the details of its "self-developed retractable camera".

The teasers serve to demo the concept of this innovative technology. The sensor extends outwards after the camera app is opened and will go back inwards once you close the app. For now, it's unknown if this camera sensor will be used for telephoto zoom capabilities or simply fit in a larger sensor inside the camera module. This is an interesting concept, after all, these protruding cameras have been a target of complaints in the recent years.

Oppo's teaser video also shows that the retractable camera module will also have some drop resistance in case of an accidental drop. Perhaps, it will be a similar mechanism to the ones found in pop-up camera mechanisms. Of course, all of the details will appear during the Inno Day event on December 14.

Retractable camera tech to debut with the Oppo Find X4 series

The interesting concept may appear for the first time within the rumored Oppo Find X4 series. For now, the device's specs and details are very scarce. Anyway, we expect it to come with advanced cameras, an OLED display, and a cutting chip like the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. In addition, the company will also unveil a new foldable smartphone.

The company's foldable smartphone, as we mentioned above, may appear at the event. But we don't know if Oppo will immediately launch the device or the event will serve just for demo purposes. Last year, Oppo used the event to reveal its very intriguing rollable smartphone. Unfortunately, this concept is yet to see the light of the day.
