Realme X50 5G Kernel Source code and Bootloader unlock tool now available

Realme is fighting to become the first brand choice among the mid-range class. The company is betting on appealing specifications, gorgeous design and now a community-friendly approach. The company wants to replicate what Xiaomi has been doing for quite some years with its Redmi phones. Realme allows bootloader unlocking on its phones and ensures that it won't void the warranty. Moreover, the company usually provides kernel source code to allow developers to dig in and build custom ROMs for their smartphones. We all know that the ColorOS/RealmeOS isn't everyone's cup of tea. Today the company is facilitating the life of those who bought the Realme X50 5G and want to install a custom ROM on the powerful smartphone.

Realme X50 5G now has Bootloader Unlocking Tool

The Realme X50 5G is one of the company's first hits in 2020. It features Qualcomm's excellent Snapdragon 765G that comes with an integrated modem for seamless 5G connectivity. The handset that debuted in January is now getting its Kernel Source code published. Along with the code, Realme is providing a Bootloader Unlock tool for those wanting to venture in the unexplored waters of Realme X50 modding. You can find the tool in the download link below. However, take in mind that the process will completely wipe your data and also disables future OTA updates. You can relock the bootloader later via fastboot flashing lock command.

As we mentioned before, the company disclosed the full kernel source for its first 5G smartphone. This will allow aftermarket developers to build custom Recoveries and Custom ROMs for this smartphone. We believe that in a few months we will have full working Pixel Experience and LineageOS custom ROMs for this smartphone.

Unfortunately, the Realme X50 5G remains exclusive to the Chinese market. We don't know how this will affect the start of custom development work for this smartphone. We saw a myriad of rumors pointing to an international release in the past months. For the Global markets, the company has the more powerful X50 Pro 5G. So we don't know if the X50 will ever leave China.
