Samsung to launch "self-repair" app for Galaxy Devices

According to a filing in the US Patent and Trademark Office, Samsung is designing a new self-repair app. It will allow users of its Galaxy devices to fix any problems on their devices themselves. The description of the page suggests that the future app will be a "computer application software for mobile phones".

The Samsung app in question has an interesting icon. The icon features a gear and a wrench on a blue background. The goal of app aims to "self-repair, self-maintenance, and self-installation" smartphones, smartwatches, tablets, and headsets. That's why the app is related to Galaxy devices and not just Galaxy phones. Through the app, the company wants to provide repair guides and parts information for devices in the Galaxy lineup.

Samsung joins a trend started by Apple

This comes right after the announcement of a partnership between Samsung and iFixit. The partnership started early in 2022. Samsung started to send guides to help the website to provide info about maintenance and to sell original pieces for some of its products. Through iFixit, users and repairers can find original components for the Galaxy S21, S21+, S21 Ultra, S20+, S20 Ultra, and Tab S7 Plus. Worth noting that Google also launched a similar program with iFixit. Similarly, it aims to help users to fix their Pixel phones by themselves.

The most curious fact is that Samsung is not alone in this. Apparently, the Korean is just following its biggest rival in the tech segment - Apple. To recall, Apple also launched a similar program to help users to repair their iPhones and MacBooks. The company provides a list of components and guides to help users to do repairs. With Samsung starting a similar program, that may become a trend in the industry.

Perhaps, more companies besides Samsung, Apple, and Google will offer similar programs. Perhaps, more companies will try to help customers to solve problems with their devices themselves. Talking about Samsung, we do hope this improves the company's repairability. On some Galaxy phones, for example, one may need to replace a perfect screen just to change the battery.

For now, there is no word on the launch of the app. We expect more details to appear soon. The company may wait until the Galaxy S23 series to give more details.
